I’ve met a lot of people on the show I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! I got to meet X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger, ITV show host Ant and Dec and present show hosts Scarlett Moffatt and Dec Donnelly. And they all said I’m a nightmare on a daily basis, but they can’t say enough about how well I’m doing! I’ve never done anything like this before and it’s an incredible experience being surrounded by people from all walks of life. It’s been really good for me to get out of the bad memories of being former world champion footballer, so it’s been a really positive experience to detox myself with this.
Ant and Dec are very down to earth and they give us really good tips on how to deal with our fear of snakes. They tell you all your potential risks and they also point out all the facts so you can make a smart decision about whether you bite or not. Ant and Dec say, ‘You know what, what you did last night won’t happen now.’ When we were in the jungle, they told us about snakes, tell you all your fears and how to handle them, but we also learned the facts and it wasn’t scary any more. You just have to try and ignore your fears as much as possible and just put your head down and do it.
My biggest fear is of spiders, particularly jumbos – a Brazilian Barracuda-the one I’m just about to take out, so I’m probably doing it wrong! My biggest fear now is the opportunity of coming back on the show to eat the ‘secret’ solution. I’m not joking; it’s a Bushtucker Trial that has a secret treatment. The prize is that you’re going to get put in the loo with snakes and/or spiders and then come out looking completely different for the rest of the show! I’m going to lick it off! Anyway, this one’s going to go down a storm!
Ant and Dec have been incredible – when I was in the jungle, they said we had to do a duck race, and I’m sure we made the winning team. They are so good at sportsmanship and treating people on a fair level and I’ve loved working with them. There’s an incredible atmosphere in the jungle. It feels like we’ve been there a week already.
