Over 20 Injured After Train Hits Car On Tracks Near Kansas City

Two people were killed in a suspected train-related collision early Wednesday morning, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

According to FOX4KCTV.com, a preliminary investigation suggests a St. Louis-bound passenger train struck a green car parked on the tracks.

The accident occurred at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday in Blue Springs, Kansas, about 40 miles south of Kansas City.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office said the coroner’s office was on scene processing the victims’ bodies. The investigation is ongoing.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the train was traveling from Kansas City to St. Louis.

Railroad officials are investigating. They had blocked off the railroad tracks around mile marker 4, and tow trucks and wreckers arrived at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

Tee Shekkama, an executive for Amtrak, said he understood that St. Louis-bound trains were being held for about a half-hour.
