The Trump Organization has arranged for a single U.S. and one European tax resident — located in China — to head up the corporation’s worldwide operations.
The new arrangement gives that person control over the corporation’s operations and assets. Such a situation can seem complicated and maybe even problematic.
“It sounds like a big big issue. It really has nothing to do with the president,” former top Justice Department prosecutor Renato Mariotti told “Justice with Judge Jeanine.”
“[The tax resident] essentially has access to Trump’s assets,” Mariotti said. “They have to be using tax shelter structures. And to get them off the books as many times as possible, they take advantage of U.S. tax laws to avoid taxes.”
“The president doesn’t do anything, but this fellow now controls his finances. And he’s the person who runs the business now, so that puts it in his hands.”
“[The tax resident] essentially has access to Trump’s assets. And they have to be using tax shelter structures. And to get them off the books as many times as possible, they take advantage of U.S. tax laws to avoid taxes,” Mariotti said.
“This is a position you don’t necessarily want to have a trusted, White House-appointed official for.”
