A Toronto man has been arrested on charges that he made and distributed child pornography on social media.

Greg David Lewis, who is in his mid-40s, was taken into custody on Thursday and charged with production, possession and distribution of child pornography.

Lewis, who is also known as Greg Robinson, said he was tired of pornography being played on his mobile phone, reports CBC News.

A city court has granted a publication ban on the case.

The bail court hearing for Lewis on Friday was also heard under a publication ban.

An arrest warrant for Lewis was issued by the Peel Police on Thursday, with regards to child pornography charges that relate to videos showing children between the ages of seven and 14.

One of the children involved in the video was an 11-year-old girl, Toronto police inspector Brian Montague said.

The investigation began in late July after a co-ordinated sting operation involving Peel police and child protection service workers, which resulted in the arrest of six other people and the seizure of some 27,000 child abuse images.

Lewis, an avid participant in the grey card circuit online, has allegedly been involved in many digital images and videos of children – but the court has not yet determined the identity of all the victims in his possession.

A child pornography expert’s analysis of files seized from Lewis’ laptop revealed files of young women posing naked.

‘You can’t go back’

Police in Toronto say Lewis has not been convicted of anything.

Lewis was released on bail in August after a Toronto court convicted him of possession of child pornography, a criminal offence that carries a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison.

Speaking after his arrest on Thursday, Lewis said: “I feel very stupid for what I’ve done.”

“I just want people to know, you can’t go back, or you can but it’s too late,” he said.

Lewis’ family told CBC he is an introvert who has spent most of his life caring for his mother.

Flowers and cards have been placed at Lewis’ door.
