It’s been nearly a year since Oprah Winfrey and the British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran interviewed each other for the “A Woman’s Life” podcast. Now, they’re preparing to have another encounter, but this time, instead of getting together for the podcast, they’ll be doing a special joint interview for Winfrey’s new book series. Winfrey told Entertainment Tonight, “I’m looking forward to Ed and I coming together again to do an interview for O, Oprah’s Book Club.” Still, Winfrey quickly added that a future Oprah interview with Britney Spears would likely not be in the cards any time soon.
“You know, one is kind of never gonna happen,” Winfrey said. “What I find interesting and challenging is to find one person — an entertainer in the celebrity category, an artist in the arts or the sciences — a person who you would really want to have a genuine and intimate conversation about, and Britney Spears is interesting, to me, because she’s always worked so hard and she’s always had to prove herself. She went on a reality show and proved herself. She came back, which was unbelievable.”
Winfrey also dismissed the notion that she would want to interview the pop star on the show, however, saying, “No. Not this time, I mean, it’s Oprah’s Book Club. You want to get Oprah for whatever you’re doing. It’s an honor to have her on the show.”
Winfrey, who has interviewed a host of stars and public figures in recent years, was criticized last year for interviewing a set of siblings — Chelsea Clinton, Chelsea Handler, Ricky Martin, Gabrielle Union, and James Woods — for her roundtable chat with the book club. In December 2017, Winfrey released the best-selling “Oprah’s Next Chapter” to television in an attempt to expand the series beyond podcasts.
